Think about your results, not only for yourself, but for your team. Start by determining if you’re doing anything that breeds mistrust. Some common actions that cause people to lose confidence in a person or a team are listed below. Put a checkmark next to the “Confidence Busters” that you believe are getting in the way of you having complete confidence in your team or a team member:
- Unresolved personal conflict
- Restricted freedom
- Lack of control
- Inadequate support
- Closed or guarded communication
- Red tape and bureaucracy
- Lack of recognition
- Stealing credit
- Unwillingness to share expertise
- Low tolerance for ambiguity
- Obsession with details
- Desire to work alone vs. involve others
- Behind the scenes conversations
- Mandates and dictates
- Absence of ground rules
- Inflexible, inconsistent directions
- Abdicating responsibility/finger pointing
- Workplace secrets
- Poor measurement systems
- Inconsistent policies
